2007 POST-ELECTION STATEMENTS:
Commenting on the successful re-election of all five SARA councillors, Stoneleigh and Auriol Residents’ Association Chairman, Bill Slaughter, said, “The superb result we achieved was undoubtedly due to the hard work of the By-Election Sub Committee in producing first class informative election literature which our Zone Representatives and Officers delivered to every household, as well as the fact that in both Stoneleigh and Auriol wards our candidates personally canvassed every single household.
I would like to thank every voter who voted to re-elect all our councillors and I assure every resident in Stoneleigh that SARA will continue to represent the interests of ALL Stoneleigh residents, independently and free from any national political party interference or bias.”
COMMENTS FROM YOUR RE-ELECTED COUNCILLORS:
Cllr Robert Leach (Auriol Ward):
“All five candidates increased both their vote and their share of the vote, despite having all three main parties contesting each seat for the first time. This shows that our residents value having local people dealing with local issues in their local council.”
Cllr Christine Long (Auriol Ward):
"I would like to thank ALL who came out to vote, especially those who have enabled the retention of the RA non-political policies for this Borough by voting for me. In addition I send my thanks to our wonderful Zone Representatives, along with our Chairman, Bill Slaughter, and Election Agent, Mike Sampson."
Cllr Sandy Sanger (Stoneleigh Ward):
"I am absolutely delighted to have been re- elected to serve as a councillor for Stoneleigh Ward. I would like to thank all the residents who voted for me and for the SARA Committee and Zone representatives who worked so hard in helping us during the election campaign."
Cllr Ruby Smith (Stoneleigh Ward):
"This has been a successful campaign. It has emphasised the loyal support of the residents of Stoneleigh to the RAs’ independent non-political policy we uphold. They voted solidly for Sandy, Alan and me, and with the help of Bill, Mike and the SARA committee, together with all our zone representatives, we are “back in harness and raring to go!” Thank you all so much."
Cllr Alan Winkworth (Stoneleigh Ward):
"I would like to give thanks to Mike Sampson our Election Agent, Bill
Slaughter, Ken and Barbara Shute and all our zone representatives who helped in
the Election and especially to my wife Vanessa and Brian Sanger, who worked
tirelessly on the door to door canvassing to achieve an outstanding result. I
look forward to another four years hard work on behalf of all the residents in
Stoneleigh Ward."
ABOUT YOUR RESIDENTS' ASSOCIATION COUNCILLORS:
Residents' Association councillors are sponsored by their own independent local Residents' Associations.
Residents' Association councillors have NO allegiance to ANY national political party. They look after YOUR interests because they are independent from ALL party politics.
An independent Residents' Association councillor has the freedom to act in a way that ensures all residents obtain the best value from the council tax they pay. RA councillors ensure that residents are consulted, through their local Association, on the matters that most concern them.
The RA movement is strong and continues to grow, both here in Stoneleigh and Auriol wards and across most of the borough of Epsom & Ewell. The majority-led Residents' Association Epsom & Ewell Borough Council is widely recognised for delivering good services, cost-effectively.
All Stoneleigh and Auriol RA councillors attend monthly meetings of your Association's General Committee, to ensure two-way communication between the Council and local people. Your views are communicated, through your zone representatives and General Committee members, to our councillors - and through them directly into the Council chamber.
Continuing to elect our independent Stoneleigh and Auriol Residents' Association councillors onto Epsom & Ewell Borough Council ensures that it is YOUR voice that is heard when it matters most!
